AGM - 03/04/2023
Track Closure
On Thursday the 28th of September the council voted to close the running track in Coatbridge.
Our Chairperson, Alan Burns, released this statement:
As the Chairperson of Airdrie Harriers, I am extremely disappointed by the outcome of the NLC Policy & Strategy Committee meeting today and the imminent closure of Coatbridge Outdoor Sports Centre. This facility has been the home of Airdrie Harriers for over 30 years, and the responsibility for its demise lies with North Lanarkshire Council, which has failed our club. During my three-year tenure, I have made several attempts to contact the council to understand their plans for the site and to explore opportunities for our club to contribute to its revenue generation in order to secure our future. However, my emails and phone calls have been ignored, leading me to believe that our fate was sealed long ago.
As a community club, we have had tremendous success in promoting a healthy lifestyle for thousands of children and have recently supported a group from Hope for Autism. We have also nurtured Scottish and British Champions, making our club a source of pride for Airdrie and Coatbridge. It is disheartening to see that the council has failed to acknowledge the tireless efforts of our coaches who have dedicated over 40 years of voluntary service to the community.
Despite this setback, we will continue to fight for the benefit of our members and future members, who deserve to be a part of this incredible club. We are determined to secure the future of Airdrie Harriers by pursuing an asset transfer of Coatbridge Outdoor Sports Centre. This is a project that we have been working on for over a year, and we are now more determined than ever to make it a reality.
We are calling on anyone who wants to join us in this endeavor to step forward and lend a helping hand. Together, we can overcome this challenge and secure premises that our children can enjoy for years to come. I firmly believe that the best years for our club are still ahead of us, and we will not let the closure of the sports centre hinder our progress.
In closing, I want to express my gratitude to all the members of Airdrie Harriers who have shown unwavering support throughout this difficult period. Your dedication and passion are what drive us forward. Let's continue to fight for our club and create a brighter future together.
Sincerely,
Alan Burns
Chairperson, Airdrie Harriers

UK Athletics Statement
29 April 2020With restrictions by the UK Government on movement in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 still in place, UKA working with the Home Country Athletic Federations, have made the following update to the previous statement made on 24 March:
The suspension of athletics competition within the UK has now been extended until at least 30 June. The decision has been made collectively in light of the ongoing UK Government restrictions and the need to give athletes, coaches, clubs, event organisers and officials clarity, advance notice and time to plan.
The wider suspension of all other athletics activities until 31 May will continue to be reviewed but not before a further announcement from the UK Government on the current restrictions, which is expected during the week commencing 4 May.
The suspension of all other athletics activities includes training activities, formal club activities, running groups, and any educational or development activity such as coaching and officiating. Any continuation should still be through e-learning and virtual means.
